Many proteins are involved in the formation and maintenance of the sarcomere, fine-tuning of its contraction and muscle specific signaling pathways. These proteins associate with at least one of the three sarcomeric filament systems through specific binding sites. Examples are the four and a half lim domain (FHL) proteins, proteins of the MARP family or obscurin family proteins. While these proteins may appear 'dispensable', mutations or loss may result in myopathies. |
